I have heard form my owner that there is a fight going on. She called it the French and Indian War. There was also another fight called the Battle of Quebec. The British troops suprised and I the ink they defeated the French. Now the Treaty of Paris; I've heard that France gave Canada lands to Great Britian. I've also heard that Spain gave up Florida and got land West of a river called the Mississippi River. The Treaty of Paris marked end of France as power in North America. There was this thing (I think it was a Pontiac's War) that my owner was talking about. She said that Pontiac signed a peace treaty, united against British to fight, captured British fort at Detroit, and ended in 1765. I feel angry about the Proclimati and on of 1763 because it could anger my owner; and if som be set someday if my owner is still angry I wouldn't be set free.

Conflicts Arise

Today, the French and the British are fighting over land. I think it's because of the Native Americans. Well the British did want land and the French had already taken the land for their fort. They also sent George Washington to get it back and he failed. The French and British rivalry doesn't effect me that much because I can't do anything but work. I agree with the Albany Plan of Union because if they do have a colonial government, they might ban slavery. I think there will be a war soon because the British and French are fighting over land. I mean, why can't they just share the land?! 

My Culture

Today people have turned back to the faith that we had before this. They call it the Great Awakening. The government is horrible here for having all of the Africans be slaves. We aren't free. We can't even be part of the government; even if we do get free. The government won't even let us have an education. I barely know how to read and write. I wish I knew how to write. Then I can write stories for all of the little children.

All About Me

My name is Shekera. I live in the southern colonies. The colony that I live in is North Carolina. I am twenty-five years of age and I am an African woman. I was seperated from my family when I was sold to these people. I work on a plantation and I have to pick corn and other crops by hand. I have to pick berries against my bidding. I have to work on my hands and knees for many hours of the day. It is very painful to be in that position all day. My mother once told me that I could freeze that way. She told me that, before my family and I were seperated at a slave trade market. It was the worst day of my life to be seperated from my family. I just hope that one day I get to see my mother and the rest of my family.
